Whānau life can be a challenge and having a pēpi/baby and raising them can be a difficult job at the best of times. Family Start is here to support you to be the best parent your pēpi/baby can have.
He Matapuna Ora Charitable Trust has been providing the Family Start programme in the top of the South Island since 2000.
The Family Start programme is a child-centred, intensive home visiting programme that focuses on improving tamariki health, learning and relationships, family/whānau circumstances, environment, and safety. We can support whānau with the health, education, and wellbeing of their tamariki. We like to start working with you during pregnancy or up until pēpi/baby is two years old. Often, we can continue to support you until children are three years old.
Family Start will:

Visit you at home regularly and get to know you, your pēpi/tamariki and whānau.

Work alongside you to discover what parts of parenting you have sorted and what you need help with

Have regular parenting discussions to help you understand your pēpi/tamariki needs at different stages as they grow.

Work with you to achieve what you want to achieve/change or improve and connect you with the supports you may need.
Feedback provided by whānau in December 2023 found that:

85% of whānau stated they were significantly benefitting from Family Start.

81% of whānau stated that the parenting discussions, resources and activities enhanced their learning/interaction with their children a lot.

81% of whānau said that they found Family Start very helpful.
